What You Can Expect at NLA

Significant parent involvement is vital to student success. As the primary teacher, the parent is responsible for the education of their student.  NLA tutor-teachers will provide weekly instruction and assignments, as they seek to assist you in educating your student.  NLA classes are designed so that parents can administer weekly assignments.  Most courses are a complete curriculum and would not need to be supplemented.  It is impossible, however, for a student to learn all they need to know in a given subject in only one hour a week. Most classes require one hour of work per day to achieve success in a given subject.

Parents and students in 7th -12th grades are required to sign a commitment form, understanding their roles as the parent/teacher and student at New Life Academy.

Elementary

Elementary students are allowed one free study hall.  A monitored lunch period is provided from 12-12:30 for students taking classes all day only.  

The following elementary classes are offered:

• Kindergarten Program (3 hours)
• IEW (Institute of Excellence in Writing)
• Literature
• Science
• Geography
• History
• Art
• PE

 In addition, other elective class options are offered on a rotation.

7th-12th

We know that the required classes for 7th-12th grade can be challenging to teach at home. NLA’s desire is to help meet these needs and provide your child a consistent and challenging education.  Students in 7th-12th grades are allowed study hall periods between classes.  Lunch is scheduled from 12-12:30 p.m.

The following 7th- 12th grade classes are typically offered at NLA.  All high school science courses include a lab:
